As pictured in the Confederate Sketchbook, this shirt is constructed without a traditional separate front placket. The placket is actually made from a facing that folds over to close the front, very much like the shirts from the late 18th century.
Made with two exterior patch pockets, hand top stitched and overcast. The inside seams are pressed upon but left raw and the arm hole is faced with cotton muslin and hand attached. This is yet another common shirt style from the war years.
